FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is DYPC?
DYPC is a young people's AA conference founded for the purpose of providing a setting for an annual celebration of sobriety among young people in AA. Since its inception, a growing group of people, who at first would not consider themselves as "young people," have become regular attendees. This conference provides an opportunity for young AA's from all over to come together and share their experience, strength, and hope as members of Alcoholics Anonymous. AA members who attend DYPC return home better prepared to receive young people who come to AA looking for a better way of life.

Am I too old for DYPC?
DYPC is open to all AA members.   We define “Young People” as anyone who still has room to grow.  There are often people in attendance from early teens all the way into their 70s. Everyone is welcome.

Is DYPC an official AA event?
DYPC, like all  AA conferences, is guided by advice from AAWS advice  - some of which can be read here if you are interested.  People often ask "is this an official AA event" and the answer to that is that there really are no "official" AA events beyond service conferences.  Just like any AA group is autonomous, so is an AA conference

What happens at the conference?

There are meetings, often around the clock, a big meeting and halloween dance on Saturday night,  and other educational and social activities.  The conference is a chance to meet sober people and to make friends and engage in fellowship.

Are the meetings the main purpose of the conference?
Not exactly.  Although the meetings are important, the fellowship is important too.   The spirit of the conference is found in these words from chapters nine and two of the Big Book  “…we aren’t a glum lot.  If newcomers could see no joy of fun in our existence, they wouldn’t want it.  We absolutely insist on enjoying life.”  “There exists among us a fellowship, a friendliness, and an understanding which is indescribably wonderful.”  And that feeling doesn’t go away “as we go our separate ways.”
